SHIN ATEMI 新当身
What Is Shin Atemi?
Shin Atemi is a form of Mixed Martial Arts that combines the striking art of full contact karate with locks and throws of and then ground work and grappling. The easiest way to describe Shin Atemi is
"Japanese mixed martial arts" the system did not originate in Japan but we follow the etiquette and tradition of the Japanese arts that have been combined into the system that we teach today.
we still wear a traditional Do-Gi and hold the etiquette and tradition of a true Japanese dojo.
Shin Atemi consists of 3 main kumite disciplines and each fighter should hope to progress and improve in each area... These disciplines are:
1. Stand up.
2. Throwing & takedowns.
3. Groundwork.
Shin Atemi is a full contact fighting system that allows you to truly test your fighting techniques through the use of super safe protective headgear. The development of this ultra - light, resilient, and streamlined equipment enables you to fully develop your kicking, punching, and striking techniques to the head without injuring your partners face. This means that all people regardless of age or gender can rapidly hone in on their martial skills in a pragmatic and realistic manner.
Fighters can now aggressively display their skills in the form of combination attacks and formerly prohibited techniques such as open-hand strikes, thereby allowing the advancement of a more free and creative style. Shin Atemi is not limited to any particular school or style of karate, and has been designed to permit practitioners of all martial arts to test their skills against one another under conditions of safety, fairness, and impartiality.
Kicks may be used anywhere apart from the groin or joints. Knees and elbows are also allowed and so is headbutting
The other option for sparring is knockdown karate, which consists of bare knuckle and bare shin fighting, however without head protection no contact is allowed to the face with hands but kicks to the head are permitted.
The core emphasis in Shin Atemi is use of the Sabaki Method, a system of techniques employed with the goal of turning an opponent's power and momentum against him or her and repositioning oneself to the opponent's blind spot to counterattack from a more advantageous position and strike more vital areas. Although Shin Atemi is predominantly a stand-up fighting style that includes kicks, strikes, and punches found in most styles, it also utilizes numerous grabs, holds, sweeps, takedowns and throws often associated with Judo, Ju Jutsu or other grappling styles of martial arts. Once on the floor there are numerous strikes, locks, chokes and positioning drills used to make the Shin Atemi-Ka a proficient fighter in all 3 disciplines.
Grading System
Membership:
The membership criteria within the World Shin Atemi Organisation is kept strict in order to maintain the very highest standards and to make sure that the old school values are respected and honoured correctly. In order to qualify as a member all instructors must pass a written theory test, a practical test as well as an in-depth cross referencing of their training history do date.
Any instructor who passes the aforementioned criteria will also have their own club and club members recognized within the organisation, but all Yudansha (Dan-Grades / Black-Belts) must undergo the same examinations individually.
Shin Atemi Also links in with other independant instructors that run similar Gi based Japanese mma systems but that are not Shin Atemi.
Unfortunately as fraudulent claims of martial arts rank & membership have become commonplace, it has been decided that any such false claims involving membership claims within the World Shin Atemi Organisation or anybody seen to be passing on Shin Atemi teachings without Shin Atemi's blessing will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law, and the involved parties publicly named and shamed.
